  • Watch the Trailer of Cannes-Selected Egyptian Film Tarot!

With the overblown majesty and red carpet-worship of  the Oscars and the Golden Globes out of the way,  the 68th Cannes Film Festival is set to kick off on May 14th, and this year’s edition will see Egyptian filmmaker, Ahmed Roushdy, and writer, Hamdy Hassan, fly the flag for Om El Donya with their animated film, Tarot.

Produced by the Nawash team, the short stars Sammy Sayed - of Scarab fame - and came to life via the 2014 Cairo leg of the 48 Hour Film Project, which challenges filmmakers - novice or otherwise - from across the world to write, shoot, edit and score a film in a mere two days.

Telling the story of a struggling fisherman, Tarot earned an impressive nine awards from the 48 Hour Film Project, including Best Film, Best Writing, Best Sound Design and Best Special Effects and will be screened at Cannes on May 20th.

The film is one of only a handful of Egyptian productions to be screened at the festival, so yeah - ta7ya masr!
