Music, like so much in Egyptian society, is faced with ridicule and skepticism when it deviates from the social norm.
But when we do find someone who has an actual message coupled with the perseverance to get that message across, we should clamp onto them tighter than Tatyana Kozhevnikovam – like Mayam Mahmoud.
The eighteen year-old is being hailed as the first veiled Egyptian rapper and she's pretty decent. After initially receiving a lukewarm reception on the evil of all evils, 'Arabs Got Talent', Mayam went on to reach the semi-finals, catching the eye of British media.
