  • Things to Do in Cairo This Weekend

    thingsdrunk

Another busy weekend in Cairo awaits and with the weather that has  been seemingly crippling the city over the last few weeks subsiding – booo to global warming – it’s shaping up to be a fun one, too. Check out our pick of the best events this weekend.

ZAWYA SHORT FILM FESTIVAL @ CINEMA KARIM
    (Thursday-Sunday)
    zawya-fest
We begin on a different note than usual – a bit of cultural enrichment in the form of Zawya‘s first short film festival, which will be welcoming the city’s hipster pseudo-intellectuals for three days of screenings, discussions and an award ceremony.
    __________

    MINUS T + AROUSSI @ ZIGZAG
    (Thursday)
    12654240_728285143939976_8397865856689058389_n
The ever-versatile, Minus T, is the man seting the wheels in motion for another late-nigh-early-morning gig at Downtown’s Zigzag, with Aroussi set to follow him on the decks till the wee hours of Friday.
    __________

    MOHASSEB @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB
    (Friday)
    12508730_1201291409899026_6426157821445955909_n
Usually seen at Cairo Jazz Club on a Monday, the always reliable and genuinely jolly Mohasseb is the man in charge of the music this Friday – expect to dance. Expect to dance hard.
    __________

    HOUSE SESSIONS @ THE TEMPLE
    (Friday)
    12642951_10153879225718866_7288280407818610110_n
As great as Funk N Pop, B-Side and Behind Closed Doors (ssshhh) are, there’s nothing quite like House Sessions and this weekend’s edition proves as such – Benoit & Sergio live, Hisham Zahran opening.
    __________

EAT TO THE BEAT @ EAT & BARREL
    (Friday)
    12670086_1956161217941823_251309614113033814_n
When it comes to weekly day-party, Eat to the Beat, you have to give credit to Eat & Barrel; the Nil-side Giza venue has been booking some of the best DJs in Cairo, with Sebzz set to take the reins this Friday.
    __________

    RETRO DISCO @ THE TEMPLE
    (Friday)
    12644863_184793125214806_8045098693497257248_n
Another venue deserving of praise is neighbouring club, the Temple, which has come into its own in recent months. This edition of Disco at the Temple will be getting the retro treatment courtesy of France’s David Stepanoff.
    __________

    HASSAN KHAN @ BALCON LOUNGE
    (Saturday)

The last eight years or so have seen Hassan Khan receive praise from all corners of the world – and rightly so. Standing as one of the most unique acts in Cairo, Khan takes to the stage at Balcon Lounge for a stripped-down hardcore mishmash night of music.
    __________

HESHEK BESHEK FT. SAAD AL SOGHAYAR @ GU BAR
    (Saturday)
    12654193_1121209307903517_2204145929045551566_n
While Saturday’s are usually dull, that certainly won;t be the case at Gu Bar, who welcome Saad El Soghayar for the latest edition of Heshek Beshek. Whether you’re into Senor Soghayer’s brand of music or not, this definitely wont be boring.
