They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Bullcrap. I say imitation is the sincerest form of being a playa-hatin’, style-bitin’ jerk.
But occasionally, one cannot help but admire unapologetic, bare-faced copycats, as with Qena 360 – which bares just a little bit of a resemblance to CG’s sister site, Cairo 360.
Linking to Qena-related news stories from Egyptian news sites, Qena 360's feed doesn't exactly make for riveting reading; so, you won't find news on the hottest new Lebanese restaurant or bar in the Upper Egyptian city.
But maybe I'm being too hard on Qena - it is, after all, the city that gave us this.
Sharing headquarters with Cairo 360, I got into full journalist mode and asked Cairo 360 assistant editor, Gaser El Safty, on his views on the emergence of Qena 360. In a short statement, El Safty is quoted as saying; "Don't you have a party to write about or something? Go away, I'm busy."
