EgyptAir’s Cairo to El Alamein Flights Start This Weekend
19 July 2017
Good news for Sahel addicts – according to the airline’s Facebook page, EgyptAir will begin operating flights from Cairo to to El Alamein Airport for the first time ever this weekend and will continue to operate them every Thursday and Saturday between now and mid-September.
Sitting across 64 square kilometres and housing one terminal which can take up to 600 passengers per hour, the under-utilised airport had previously only received charter flights.
The new route has been announced as another way to encourage internal tourism and to build closer and easier links between the country's favourite holiday and tourist destinations. It also provides a welcome new option for travellers looking to head north this summer, with the Cairo-Alex Dessert Road witnessing a consistent stream of accidents over the years.
