There are few names that exude understated style and elegance like Chivas Regal does. It’s no surprise, then, that one would find that sweet, thick-necked, genie-lamp of a bottle popping up at this year’s Filmmakers Dinner at the 67th Cannes Film Festival – where being famous is cool and being cool makes you famous.
Held at the prestigious Hotel Du Cap Eden Roc, the dinner was attended by the who’s-who of actors – the ones you’re pretty sure you’ve heard of, but just can’t put a face to, until you look them up on IMDB and remember that your saw them in that one weird film a few years ago. Oh, and bona fide Hollywood big-shot, Edward Norton.
Star of such films as American History X, Fight Club and the weirdest mainstream film in existence, Death to Smoochy, guest of honour, Norton, came bearing gifts for charity, FilmAid - a big fat cheque worth $100,000 on behalf of Chivas Regal 25, to be precise.
FilmAid, which uses film and video as an information source and exchange in crisis communities across the world, established its global partnership with Chivas in 2011 – with a ceremony whose guest of honour was a guy called Robert De Niro, who ‘s been a longtime supporter of the initiative.
Three years later, in 2014, the partnership between FilmAid and Chivas Regal 25 is as strong as the unbreakable bond between drinking buddies. All that was left was for the likes of Naomi Watts, Rosario Dawson, Gemma Arerton and Harvey Weinstein to sit back and responsibly enjoy a drink of Chivas Regal 25. Oh to be a fly on that wall.
