The definitive guide to living in the capital, Cairo 360, has this week announced the winners of 2016 edition of its annual Cairo 360 Editors’ Choice Awards – a seal of approval recognising the best that Egypt’s capital has to offer.
From dining and nightlife, to arts & culture and shopping, Cairo 360 has left no stone unturned since launching in 2010 as a complete and inclusive guide on all there is to see and do in the capital. As a the first online magazine of its kind providing unbiased, unanimous reviews on restaurants, cafes, bars, gyms, shops and more, there are few who are in as good a position to recognise and salute the best in the city.
Now it its third edition, the Cairo 360 Editors’ Choice Awards – as seen displayed proudly at venues across the city – is the result of thousands of scrutinising reviews undertaken over the last five years by Cairo 360 reviewers. In sharing headquarters with Cairo 360 we were privy to what transpired to be a gruelling and arduous process of picking the winners, as editors and writers sifted through the thousands upon thousands of venues in the capital and whittled down the winners.
Said winners list includes a mix of both familiar and slightly more obscures name across all of the categories, with some of the new winners including Zamalek’s U Bistro & Bar, Downtown Bistro, Eish & Malh, and the Tap East,
The list also excludes some big names that are bound to cause controversy. But in addressing this, the Cairo 360 team , gave us insight into what is a more complex selection process than meets the eye.
“Reviews are important in choosing Editors’ Choice Award winners and in addition to taking into account our standard criteria – quality, service, value-for-money, et al – we also consider other more intangible elements, like consistency and longevity,” one writer told us. “We always get people asking us why a certain restaurant, bar or shop hasn’t received an award, but we take our selection very seriously and there’s a reason for every decision.”
