Serial nightlife entrepreneur, Rawy Rizk, is set to launch his newest baby alongside Nader El Dairy and Ibrahim and Mohamed Yehia in the first week of March.
The baby in question is U Bistro & Bar and the four hombres have the unenviable task of filling the physical and emotional void that has been left in so many hearts since the closure of Zamalek favourite, La Bodega, last year. It still hurts.
But with such a great space to work with, the future is looking bright. The quartet has a barrel load of expertise when it comes to F&B and nightlife, of course, and the new venture has seen them enlist the talents of Cairo-based French chef, Fabrice Le Guillou, who is said to be working on a seasonal, shift-shaping menu of sorts that will use only the best quality ingredients throughout the year.
The team have brought in the trendy-eyed folk at Alchemy Design Studio for the interior decor and they’ve also been canoodling with the guys at Original Birth – a group that has their fingers in many a Cairo pie when it comes to boutique hotels and restaurants in the city.
On the bar side of things, the man who brought Cairo’s favourite cocktail bar to life, Rizk, is keen to ensure that U is churning out the best cocktails around, while the kind of music you’ll be hearing there has been described as couture.
It all sounds promising on paper and the arrival of a new upscale bar and restaurant will hopefully bring back a bit of old-school class to the increasingly grating island that is Zamalek – because for the love of all that is holy, enough with the burger joints and salads places. Please.
