  • The Nile-Ritz Carlton’s Lobster-Stuffed Pigeon is the Most Incredible Thing We’ve Ever Seen

Having opened in late 2015, The Nile Ritz-Carlton has quickly come to cement itself as one of the most luxurious hotels in Cairo. Sitting pretty along the Nile in Downtown Cairo, the hotel houses some of the best facilities and amenities to be found in Egypt’s capital; but it’s The Nile Ritz-Carlton’s restaurant’s that we’re here to talk about – one in particular.

While more and more new and exotic cuisines are arriving in Egypt’s capital, there’s something to be said for a quality feast of Egyptian and Middle Eastern dining – something that the hotel’s Oriental restaurant, Bab El Sharq, readily provides.

Fusing familiar, local gastronomical traditions with the contemporary touches that you’d expect from The Ritz-Carlton name, you’ll find some truly authentic, hearty dishes on the Bab El Sharq menu. But one particular dish stands out – the restaurant’s Lobster-Stuffed Pigeon. Yes, that’s pigeon stuffed with lobster.

Well, it’s not as straightforward as that; alongside premium lobster, the pigeon is also stuffed with rice and liver and is marinated with a special mixture of regional spices – but, yeah, lobster-stuffed pigeon.

It’s one of many creative dishes on Bab El Sharq’s menu, but the pigeon stands as one of the most unique combinations we’ve come across in Cairo and gives you some indication on The Ritz-Carlton approach in taking the often prepared and eaten pigeon in Egypt and adding a spectacular touch – taking the traditional and making it anew.

It’s also an indication of Bab El Sharq as a restaurant, whose menu brings together the best foods from across the region – but the ‘Arabian flair’ extends further than the food. Already popular with the city’s shisha-lovers, the restaurant’s outdoor garden is an ideal hang-out spot, while an extensive entertainment schedule sees live music take centre stage every night from 9.30PM, while Sunday to Friday also sees a belly dancer join in on the fun.
