Even now, the culture of food and drink in Cairo does little justice to that marvelous little thing called brunch. Damp cold-cuts and soggy fruit salad is about as good as it gets at most of the city’s restaurants.
Dokki nightspot, Alchemy, is looking to change that with a new weekly series of brunch events that is set to debut this weekend, on Saturday 2nd of November.
Gruesomely named There’s Something Bloody About Mary, the event combines brunch and art, with monthly exhibitions set to adorn the lavish areas of the bar. First up is the work of award-winning sculptor, Nathan Doss – a man who’s no stranger to Alchemy.
You see Mr Doss is the brain behind the ghoulish masks that line the walls of the bar. Art lovers can enjoy his masterpieces while chowing down everything from frittatas, sausages and pancakes, to healthier options like fruit and yogurt from a specially prepared menu.
But the real highlight of it all? Pitchers of Bloody Mary – I like mine with a stick of celery in it.
