There’s a general misconception that hangs over the nightlife scene in Cairo like a dark cloud that suggests that Egypt’s capital is severely lacking in high-end bar options. Granted, the crowded thud-thud-type of nightlife is much more prevalent, but tucked away at the InterContinental Semiramis is a hidden gem of an experience at Ambassador Club.
The Garden City hotel has received plenty of acclaim and fans for its dining options – Birdcage is a personal favourite – and that level of quality and luxury extends to the unique bar, but with a little something extra.
But let’s talk about the bar first. As a space, it boasts an intimate setting that has a classical elegance about it; think deep, engulfing leather sofas, a great Nile-view, the faint smell of cigar smoke from the next table and a pianist that has the world-weary look of a man who has a lot of stories to tell.
Offering a light-meal menu, premium spirits and imported wines, it’s the Worldly Classics cocktails that give Ambassador Club that extra touch of panache. Created by leading mixologist, Nick Braun, the menu brings together some rather fancily fashioned bespoke combinations and flavours, with each cocktail boasting its own unique take or twist.
It doesn’t stop there, though; the menu adds cuisine to cocktails, serving a complimentary canapé with any Worldly Classic cocktail purchased. Put together by Braun and some of the InterContinental’s chefs worldwide, each cocktail is paired with a canapé for a perfect bite-and-sip combination.
