Some will tell you that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. It’s largely a good way to go about life, but Chivas Regal – ever the evolving and involving premium Scotch whisky that it is – doesn’t quite agree, particularly in the wake of the release of the brand new Chivas Regal Extra.
As the brand’s first global expression since 2007, Chivas Regal Extra is being touted as one of the richest and most generous tasting premium Scotch whisky blends – music to the ears of fans of a whisky that has roots that can be traced back to 1801.
Said to be crafted for ‘those who look for more in life’, this new blend is built on the award-winning house style of Chivas, but with an extra kick, thanks to the use of some of the rarest malt whiskies from the Chivas inventory – whiskies that have been matured together in Oloroso sherry casks.
Proving that whisky is an art, the result is a rich variety of the classic Chivas flavour, boasting a fruity, sweet nose with pear, toffee and ginger notes, as well as soft notes of vanilla, caramel and cinnamon – if ever there has been such thing as a party in your mouth, this is it, as Master Blender, Colin Scott, affirms.
“The mark of its quality lies in its rich and generous taste which we’ve created by using some of our rarest whiskies built on a rich foundation of malts that have been matured in a higher proportion of sherry casks. This process delivers a profound depth of flavour and a whisky that showcases the character of this unique blend, taking it to a whole new level.”
It’s a whole new level that global brand ambassador for Chivas Regal, Max Warner, has taken in his stride by developing a series of Fortified Classics cocktails using other rich-flavoured spirits, including Lillet, Sherry and Port.
The release marks another milestone for Chivas Regal, which stands as the world's original luxury whisky Scotch today, and comes off the back of several high-profile collaborations with other world-renowned luxury brands as Pininfarina, luggage maker, Globe-trotter, Bremont Watches and fashion website, Mr Porter.
