  • Things to Do in Cairo This Weekend

Nightlife in Cairo this weekend is very much dominated by international talent and its all the better for it. Don’t get us wrong; we’ve got nothing but love for love for the brothers and sisters fighting the good fight on the battlefield that is Cairo’s bars and clubs, but the best of Germany, New York, Greece and other foreign lands are sweeping through like a nice cold breeze.

It’s finally here. After what has seemed like an eternity, the Student DJ 2014 final is upon us and will see Gaser El Safty and Nour Fahmy go at it for the honour of being crowned the best DJ not to be polluted by the demands of Cairo’s bars and clubs. In addition to the final battle, semi-finalist, Marc Wahba, is set to open on an evening that will also see Finnebassen and H.O.S.H take to the decks.

Downtown bar/art-space, VENT, kicks off the weekend with Justin Carter; a New York-based DJ and promoter who is one of the brains behind uber-cool, slightly-hipster Brooklyn parties, Mister Saturday Night – which in turn led to the birth of growing record label of the same name. The night will also see VENT regulars, 1127 and $$$TAG$$$, play back-to-back for opening and closing duties.

Though Nacelle‘s concerted effort to put the focus on local talent in recent months, let’s leave music-based patriotism aside for the weekend and appreciate how big of a booking this House Sessions‘ temporary import is. With Aly B opening, the headline act for the night comes in the form of Berlin-based duo, Patrick Bodmer and Philipp Jung – aka M.A.N.D.Y.

RIVERDEEP has had its ups and downs since its launch late last year, but the ups are pretty good. This weekend’s edition is set to welcome a duo that Cairo Gossip was lucky enough to get to know over numerous occasions; Heavy Pins. The Greek twosome have a boyish charm and, more importantly, they know how to push the buttons of Cairo’s clubbing crowd.
