While Cairo’s sun worshipers dust off their designer flip-flops for another weekend in Sahel, Cairo’s bars and clubs are picking up the pace following the end of Ramadan. This weekend, we there’s plenty going on across the city’s top venues, including Cairo Jazz Club, Fairmont Nile City and more.
SCARLET’S VINTAGE BREW @ ALCHEMY
There are so many reasons to love Alchemy, but first on my list is the Dokki nightspot’s unapologetic commitment to alcohol-based events. This weekend, the sangria will be flowing at Scarlet’s Vintage Brew.
ELLIE OF LONDON @ SAIGON RESTAURANT & LOUNGE
There are few people who can get my loins burning like Ellie of London can – slightly gross, but true. After a month-long Ramadan absence, the Brit is back at Fairmont Nile City’s Saigon Restaurant & Lounge.
AHMED SAMY @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB
Calm down VENT fans. Ahmed Samy isn’t going mainstream or anything – the dude just needs to keep his stuff sharp while the Downtown bar undergoes some renovations and there’s no better place than Cairo Jazz Club.
l0rD @ BALCON LOUNGE
There isn’t much in the way of indie music in Cairo, but one group of budding musicians are leading the charge; l0rD. This weekend, the cult-followed group perform at Heliopolis’ Balcon Lounge.
MASHROU3 AL MAREEKH @ DARB 1718
Even though they’ve repeatedly rejected my request to perform this rousing piece of musical ingenuity, I can’t be mad at Mashrou3 Al Mareekh. The perennial open-mic event has done its fare share in introducing Cairo to some truly talented up-and-coming musicians and artists and returns this weekend at Darb 1718.
