  • Things to Do in Cairo This Weekend

    things17

Listen, we’re both tired, so I’m going to save you the hassle of wading through an intro and leave you with what you came here for. Here’s a very precisely selected collection of the best events in – and out of – Cairo this weekend.

    CLOUD 9 FESTIVAL @ NUWEIBA
    (Thursday-Sunday)

Like some kind of drug-stricken hippy dream, Nuweiba will host one of the biggest events of the weekend – nay, month. With a huge line-up of live music that includes everyone from Bosaina and Hussein Sherbini, to SimpleXity and Rain Dogs, I may never come back. Get ready for www.nuweibagossip.com.

CRASH BOOM BANG ANNIVERSARY PARTY @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB
    (Thursday)

As firm favourites of the CJC faithful, Crash Boom Bang will once again celebrate its anniversary and once again in true Egyptian style; with galabeyas and fake moustaches. That’s enough reason for me.
    __________

DJ SAMBA & DJ ZALAAT @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB
    (Friday)

Veteran disc-jockeying dude, Samba, spends most of his time living like a big shot in Gouna, but will bless CJC with his presence this Friday. DJ Zalaat kicks things off at 9PM. I know that because it says so on the banner.
    __________

CHINESE NEW YEAR @ BUDDHA BAR
    (Friday)

Sofitel Cairo El Gezirah ushers in the year of the horse with booze, a buffet and DJ Lyon behind the decks at Buddha Bar. According to Chinese tradition, those born during the year of the horse are likely to be bright, intelligent and energetic. I was born during the year of the Ox, which means I’m brown and hairy, but also that my ass tastes good in soup.

    HADSA @ VENT
    (Friday)

VENT continues to champion the outcasts of Cairo’s otherwise frustratingly bland music scene, as three-man experimental noise-makers, Hadsa, take to the stage  with no one really that sure of what will happen. It’s just nice to have something other than house or Oriental-fusion – the latter of which I refuse to acknowledge as a thing.

There are plenty more events on the Cairo Gossip events calendar to sink your teeth into – the majority of which revolve around house and Oriental-fusion.
