  • Things to Do in Cairo This Week

    thingsr

What’s up with this weather, huh? It’s tempting to stay at home, leaving the curtains slightly open to remind you of what you’re escaping from, but as is becoming the case more and more as we (allegedly) inch closer to the summer months, Cairo is beaming with some very decent events. They might not all be groundbreaking, but they help pass the time until the inevitable end of earth that we have contributed to by pillaging its resources for thousands of years. Humans are the worst, but at least there’s music and drink.

    LOS COMPADRES @ CHEERS
    (Sunday)

If there is such thing as a match made in heaven, then this is it. Ashraf Habashi – one of the most undervalued singing talents in Cairo – takes to the stage at Cheers alongside Los Compadres for a night of sensual Latin jazz at the Maadi bar.

GLOW IN THE DARK @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB
    (Monday)

Whether you care to admit it or not, anything glow in the dark holds a kind of hereditary coolness  – more importantly, however, what’s more exciting is that in Gawdat, Aguizi & Fahim and A-Squared, three of the top young DJ acts are all in one place at Cairo Jazz Club.

JAZZING BY THE RIVER FT. SHEHAB KASSEB @ RIVERSIDE
    (Monday)
    sheba kasseb
This week’s Jazzing by the River might be a little bit rowdier than usual, with Screwdriver front-man, Shehab Kasseb, set to take the reigns at an event that’s usually helmed by Ahmed Harfoush – if you know Screwdriver, you’ll know what we’re talking about.

    B-SIDE BY NACELLE @ CAFE D’NIL
    (Wednesday)

While most Nacelle talk has revolved around the end of House Sessions and the upcoming I Love Nacelle Weekend and SANDBOX, B-Side has been chugging along nicely, with this week’s guest coming in the form of Belgium-based Egyptian, wah.leed, and the always reliable Moez.

MAZZIKA X EL SAT7: CAT STEVENS TRIBUTE @ DARB 1718
    (Wednesday)

Following on from a stellar perfomance from Hany Must and EgoZ last week, Dar 1718′s Mazzika X El Sat7 is a little different this week, with increasingly popular local band, Karkadan, paying tribute to Cat Stevens.
