As we await another weekend to nonchalantly throw the week’s trouble in the air like that meme, Cairo’s bars and clubs have some solid events to keep things ticking over until Thursday at Cairo Jazz Club, the Tap and Zigzag.
URBAN SUNDAY FT. FAT SAM @ THE TAP
While the talk of the town is very much focused on news of the Tap‘s two new branches in New Cairo and Sheikh Zayed – the former set to open this month and the latter towards the end of the year – it’s business as usual for the Maadi branch that started it all of, as they kick off the week with hip-hop and r&b of Fat Sam.
FAM + OMAR SHERIF @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB
Monday’s at Cairo Jazz Club usually make for a difficult Tuesday morning, but FAM‘s quest to bring trance to the masses in Egypt continues this week, as the three-man tag-team of Far, Ashmawy and Mohasseb take to the decks on a night that will also see Omar Sherif return.
LIV BEL 3ARABI @ LIV LOUNGE
We’ve not often mentioned LIV Lounge on the future Pulitzer prize-winning Things to Do series, because, well, electric violinists are so two years ago. But it seems that the Oriental-themed nightlife wagon is moving at breakneck speed and we’ve heard that bellydancer Nesma really knows how to put on a show.
TAYLOR RANKIN @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB
Following a triumphant Cairo return at the Tap this weekend, Bermudan violinist and general cool-dude, Taylor Rankin, takes to the stage at Cairo Jazz Club. Look at him – he’s got everything: a cool popstar name, a slightly niche instrument, a ponytail, white sunglasses. Sigh.
RHYTHM ROULETTE ROUND 2 @ ZIGZAG
After Minus T cleaned up in round one last week, five more of Cairo’s finest DJing specimens step up to the plate for Zigzag‘s Rhythm Roulette – where there are no friends, just enemies standing in the way of their musical improvisation glory.
B-SIDE BY NACELLE @ CAFE D’NIL
Abdo, aka Klady, aka Abdo Klady, aka Ab Klady – a man we have tipped to have a huge year on the electronic music scene in 2016 – impressed Nacelle’s powers that be last time he took to the decks for B-Side and returns for this week’s edition at Nile-side Giza venue, Cafe D’Nil.
These are just a few of the events that await you this week across Egypt’s ever-eclectic capital – check out the Cairo Gossip events calendar for more.
