We’re only half-way through through the first day of the week and a tangible blanket of misery (and whining) has already been cast over Cairo. But it’s not all doom and gloom (and wet socks), as the city’s bars and clubs soldier on through the rain. Check out the best events of the week.
URBAN SUNDAY FT. FAT SAM @ THE TAP
There’s a palpable excitement doing the rounds with fans of the Tap, as the bar inches closer to the launch of its new branch at Westown Hub. But back in Maadi, things are kicking off in phat-style with this week’s Urban Sunday welcoming the always phat Fat Sam.
DINE ‘N’ JAZZ @ AQUA E LUCE
It’s not often that Fairmont Heliopolis & Towers hosts ‘events’, so to speak, but the hotel is starting its week with Cairo crooner, Ahmed Harfoush, who’ll be serenading diners on a special night at Aqau e Luce.
MOHASSEB @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB
No surprises here. We’ve quite consistently professed our seemingly unconditional love for a certain Mohasseb and we refuse to apologise for it. Despite his DJ collective, FAM, starting to gain a big following, the Cairo DJ flies solo this week at Cairo Jazz Club.
THE CHIKATURA @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB
Cairo Jazz Club‘s busy week continues on Tuesday with the debut of local band, the Chikatura – a group whose music is as cool as their name. Inspired by Oriental music and ambient vocals, the band’s sound is most accurately described as electric rock – sounds interesting.
NACELLE: B-SIDE @ CAFE D’NILE
This week’s B-Side sees Nacelle honcho, Tito, show these young kids how it’s done, with hip-hop DJ, Sosusura, also getting a turn on the decks at Cafe D’Nile following an impressive showing at Funk N Pop.
NESMA MAHGOUB @ RIVERSIDE
Nesma Mahgoub has become a bit of a fixture at Riverside these days and the endlessly talented singer returns to the Zamalek venue this week. That’s about all there is today, so here’s a fun fact instead: one of Nesma Mahgoub’s first forays into music was as the lead singer of a metal band. True story.
These are just a few of the events hoping to brighten up what is shaping up to be a cold, wet week in Cairo – check out the CG events calendar for more.
