  • Things to Do in Cairo This Week

    thingsNOV29

We’d like to be telling you what a great week awaits us until the weekend every Sunday, but life’s just not that simple. It’s slim pickings this week across Cairo’s bars and clubs, with only a few events standing out amidst the usual. Said outstanding events are not to be scoffed out, however, with the likes of Ahmed Samy, A-Squared, Baher and AK among the names to look out for over the next few days.

RA2ASS SHANABAK @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB
    (Monday)

Movember has come and gone with little fanfare in Egypt this year, but Cairo Jazz Club‘s annual Ra2ass Shanabak is definitely still on. With the entry fees set to be donated to local non-profit, Helm, if you feel a fuzzy, warm feeling inside, that’s not necessarily the alcohol, but something they call ‘giving back’. Whatever the case, facial-haired DJs, A-Squared, Baher and Shady Ezz provide the music.

AFRO LATIN BEATS @ EISH & MALH
    (Monday)

An Egyptian and a Colombian go to an Italian bistro in Downtown Cairo – sounds the like the beginning of a joke, but it’s certainly not. Downtown restaurant, Eish & Malh, has been throwing in more and more live entertainment into its cooking pot as of late and this week, Ibrahim El Haddad accompanies Colombian singer, Giangina Orsini, for a midweek evening of live music.

THE ROCK SHOW FT. AHMED SAMY @ THE TAP
    (Wednesday)

As one of the few places in Cairo one can enjoy a spot of rock at, the Tap attracts people from all walks of life – be they the rough old-school probably-has-a-bike rocker type, the fluffier skinny-jeans-and-Converse  kind or even just Maadi locals keeping an eye on ‘outsiders’. This week’s edition of The Rock Show welcomes VENT resident, Ahmed Samy, who recently turned 31 despite looking like he’s closer to 21.

STRAIGHT OUTTA CAIRO @ DJ AK @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB
    (Wednesday)

STRAIGHT OUTTA CAIRO, CRAZY FOTHAMUCKA NAMED AK, FROM THE GANG CALLED…well, that’s as far as you can go with that one. Point, is AK is in the driver’s seat this Wednesday at Cairo Jazz Club, as the versatile DJ dips into his bag of hip-hop and r&b tricks for Straight Outta Cairo.
    __________

    SCREWDRIVER @ RIVERSIDE
    (Wednesday)

Some fifteen years after being birthed of the musical mind of Egyptian musician, Ayman El Barbary, local band, Screwdriver, can still rock out with their…um, sock (?) out, so to speak. As one of the most enduring active bands in Egypt, the blues-and-funk-and-rock-n-roll outfit have played everywhere and will do so this week at Zamalek’s Riverside. Presumably with their ‘sock out’.
