  • Things to Do in Cairo This Week

    things-2211

There’s some tasty-looking events on that beautiful, warm horizon that we call the weekend, but that’s like, FIVE WHOLE DAYS AWAY. Sigh. Fear not, though, fellow nostophobiacs; in the meantime, Cairo’s bars and clubs have churned out some solid events to keep you busy until Thursday – check it out.

    URBAN SUNDAY @ THE TAP
    (Sunday)

Maadi bar, the Tap, kicks off its week on a distinctly urban note, as DJ Miesh takes his place at the decks for this week’s edition of  Urban Sunday – expect hip-hop, r&b and a little of Miesh’s own inclination to house.
    __________

AMRO & THE BIG BANG BOOGIE @ RIVERSIDE
    (Monday)

One of the hottest music acts in Cairo right now is set to perform at one of the hottest venues in Cairo right now; Amro & the Big Bang Boogie have made their presence felt over the last month or so and continue their good form with some upbeat jazz at Zamalek’s quickly reemerging Riverside.
    __________

HEIGHTENED TEMPO/THIS IS A TRANCE EVENT @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB
    (Monday)

It’s not often one gets to indulge in trance music, but it’s taking centre-stage at Cairo Jazz Club this Monday, with Karim Zalat, Omar Sherif and three-man DJ tag-team, FAM, take to the decks.
    __________

    1901 KARAOKE STREET @ JOHNNY’S WEST
    (Tuesday)

Having relaunched just a few weekes ago, Johnny’s at Le Pacha 1901 West has been experiencing a renaissance of sorts, and following appearances from the likes Amir Sultan and Fairouz T in recent times, Michelle Rounds is set to lead a night of karaoke.
    ___________

GURUMIRAN + RAMY DJUNKIE @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB
    (Wednesday)

In one of the highlight music events of the week, Beirut-based music-maker, Gurumiran, takes to the Cairo Jazz Club stage for the Egypt launch of his new album, Aberrance. And because it wouldn’t be Wednesday at CJC without a little boogie, Ramy DJunkie is on closing duties.
    __________

    B-SIDE BY NACELLE @ CAFE D’NILE
    (Wednesday)

This week’s edition of B-Side is set to see Nacelle call on the talents of young DJ duo, Disco Masr, on a night that will see one of Nacelle’s backstage brains, Tito, also flex his DJing muscle.
