With Christmas and New Year’s Eve just ahead, Cairo’s bars and clubs would be forgiven for taking it easy as we approach the festive season. But this being the season to be jolly and whatnot, there’s plenty to see and do including the debut of a ‘new nightlife concept’, the last Dancestock of the year and a guy called Dudu.
PRIVATE SESSIONS FT. DUDU + A-SQUARED @ THE GARDEN
After a brief and unexplained hiatus, the Garden’s weekly knees-up, Private Sessions, is back. This week, up-and-coming disc-jockeying youngster, A-Squared, takes to the decks on a line-up that also includes someone called Dudu. Dudu is a funny name.
METROPOLIS @ VENUE LOUNGE & BAR
Seemingly out of now where, a goup of nightlife-loving ruffians are said to be scheming in a dark back-room somewhere to bring forth a new nightlife concept. What Metropolis is exactly, no one knows. But their debut event sees three of this year’s Student DJ competitors take the decks at Zamalek’s Venue Lounge & Bar.
007 NIGHT WITH AHMED HARFOUSH @ SAIGON RESTAURANT & LOUNGE
You gotta love the guys at Fairmont Nile City – they use any excuse to have a party. This time round, Saigon Restaurant & Lounge is celebrating Judi Dench’s birthday with a James Bond-themed party featuring Ahmed Harfoush – I’m not sure if this is brilliant or a bit strange.
MOSTAFA EL SAYED @ VENT
For all it’s perceived faults, VENT has introduced the masses to artists that the shallow minds of Cairo might not have otherwise come across. This week, Mostafa El Sayed’s truly unique fusion of progressive/experimental/electronic/nice-on-the-ears rock is set to to be introduced to said narrow-minded masses.
DANCESTOCK 2014: ANDRE CROM + ALY GOEDE @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB
Unless the sneaky connivers at Cairo Jazz Club have another surprise up their sleeves, this is set to be the actual last night of this year’s Dancestock – sad. The closer is set to welcome the always brilliant Aly Goede, with the chiseled and dangerously handsome Andre Crom headlining.
