  • Things to Do in Cairo This Week

    thingsu

If you were in any kind of denial that summer is over, it’s time to face the truth, Cairo. While you may be able to escape for a day or two to a beach, you’ll almost certainly find nothing but the vast sea and faint thoughts of a Virgina Woolf-like death to keep you entertained. But Cairo’s bars and clubs are done licking the wounds inflicted by clubbers’ cruel betrayal for sandier shores and there’s plenty going on across the city this week.

    RIHAM MUSTAFA @ RIVERSIDE
    (Monday)

With usually Monday performer, Ahmed Harfoush, taking a well-deserved break, Zamalek’s Riverside has drafted in femme fatale, Riham Mustafa, to belt out some tunes. I like Harfoush, but nothing gets me going like being sung to by a woman who looks like she could cut-off your manhood with a second thought.

    ARAB LEAGUE ALLSTARS @ VENT
    (Monday)

Rush, Sphinx, E-Money and MC Amin – four nice, young men from one of Cairo’s many rough sides of the track – make up Arab League Allstars, who have slowly, but surely, making their mark locally and regionally as of late, with their sociopolitical subject and sweet collection of hats. They perform this week at VENT.

OLD IS NU FT SHAWKY & NTAHAWY

Another edition of Cairo Jazz Club‘s Old is Nu welcomes back DJ SHawky, who headlines the night with his trademark indie house and nu-disco dets, alongside a man whose standing in Cairo’s increasingly saturated DJ scene is inching higher and higher every month, NTahawy.

AL HEZB EL COMEDY THIRD ANNIVERSARY SHOW @ THE DISTRICT
    (Wednesday)

Our slightly unadjusted friends at Al Hezb El Comedy will this week celebrate their three year anniversary with three consecutive gigs in Cairo and Alexandria. The stand-up troupe – now representing forty comedians – kick of the revelry this Wednesday at the District in Maadi.

MOHASSEB’S BIRTHDAY BASH @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB
    (Wednesday)

Irrefutably one if the best DJs in Cairo right now, Mohasseb celebrates his birthday with a special gig at Cairo Jazz Club this week. Rumor has it he’s turning thirty-one – but don’t tell anyone, he’s rather sensitive about his age…
