With many already looking to the Eid holiday, Cairo’s bars and clubs a chockablock with events this week, as we await quirky jazz from Germany, local hippity-hopping and some of Cairo’s best DJs. Here’s a rundown of this week’s best parties and gigs.
THREE FALL @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB
Three Germans walk into Cairo Jazz Club. Barman asks, ‘What do you guys do?’. One of them replies, “we’re musicians.”
“What kind of music do you play,” asks the barman. “It’s a quirky take on jazz, actually.” Barman nods, gets them their drinks, end of story.
PRIVATE SESSIONS FT. MISTY @ THE GARDEN
An Egyptian DJ walks into a bar called the Garden – “Hi, I’m Misty” he said. Barman replies, “Yeah, I know who you are, I’ve heard one of your sets on CG Tunes – how did you learn all this mixing stuff?” The DJ replies, “Mostly trowel and error.”
DJ FAT SAM @ VENT
There once was a man called Fat Sam, he knows his hip-hop just like Bambam. He’s playing at VENT, but no 50 Cent, because that’s the musical equivalent of spam. #MadRhymingSkillsSon
BAHER EID & ALY GOEDE @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB
Baher is dope and so is Aly Goede, music so good they call him musical Buddha, they’re making Monday manic, big things going down like titanic and I don’t have another rhyme but it’s cool ’cause I never panic.
HOUSE OBSESSION @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB
I have a confession, it’s something of an obsession, I live for the sessions, of all kinds of house, it ain’t Mickey Mouse, it’s the real thing son, way beyond fun, big tracks will be spun. Zalat, Hady Tarek, Aguizi & Fahim at Cairo Jazz Club.
