Ramadan is creeping up on Cairo’s bars and clubs and I’m starting to have panic attacks at the thought of Ramadan tents, prostitute-infested hotel bars and weird house parties where everyone’s wearing flip-flops and friendship bracelets being the only viable evening outings. This is why we we need to get our fill of smokey, crowded, music-based activities while we still can. Here’s the best of the week’s events.
JAZZING BY THE RIVER FT. AHMED HARFOUSH @ RIVERSIDE RESTAURANT & LOUNGE
If there’s a man who looks better in a hat than Ahmed Harfoush, I’ve yet to see him. This week, Egypt’s version of Michael Bublé doing Frank Sinatra is back at Zamalek’s Riverside.
PRIVATE SESSIONS FT DJ OUZO @ THE GARDEN
Not content with nightlife in Sharm El Sheikh, DJ Ouzo has been spending an awful lot of time in Cairo as of late and the Pacha Sharm resident gets back in the saddle at the Garden‘s Private Sessions.
CARTOON THERAPY + MINOR THOUGHT @ VENT
This week’s obscurely explained VENT gig comes courtesy of two young men who are doing things a little bit differently to so many other Cairo producers. The only way to understand Messrs Cartoon Therapy and Minor Thought is to check them out for yourself.
HOUSE OBSESSION @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB
Someone once said that life is nothing without obsession, while I would say that life in Cairo without house music nothing. So make of that what you will, while Zalat, Gawdat and Mohasseb play back-to-back at Cairo Jazz Club.
