With summer and Ramadan around the corner, now is the time to really appreciate Cairo’s bars and clubs for all their dark, smokey glory. This week, we have a smorgasbord of ‘things to do’, with local talent, international DJs and an interesting musical collaboration awaiting you.
JAZZING BY THE RIVER FT AHMED HARFOUSH @ RIVERSIDE
Here’s a little know fact; ‘jazzing’ didn’t become a verb till Ahmed Harfoush made it one. Yeah, he’s that gangster. So gangster, in fact, that he’s now apparently spelling Harfoush with two ‘R’s, just because he can. Or maybe the extra ‘R’ is for Riverside?
ROUL & DOORS @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB
Dutch DJ duo, Roul & Doors, don’t inspire much in me, because – phonetically speaking - they remind me of my two biggest hates: rules and doors – especially doors. But apparently they’re pretty good and will proving such at Cairo Jazz Club.
SWAG LEE & NADAH EL SHAZLY + SPECIAL GUEST @ VENT
Broody rap connoisseur, Swag Lee, and haunting vocal vixen, Nadah El Shazly, team up at VENT. Apparently, if you stare into the deceptively random patterning above for thirty seconds, then close your right eye, the face of the special guest appears. Try it.
HYBRID FREQUENCIES @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB
Swag Lee turns his back on da hood and goes mainstream for one night, taking to the stage for a line-up that also includes former Cairo Jazz Club performers, Machine Eat Man, and the also debuting, GAST.
SANDBOX WARM-UP PARTY
You’ve got to hand it those dastardly dudes at Nacelle and their unbridled commitment to partying – with this SANDBOX Warm-Up Party being prime example: because the only way to prepare for a huge party, is to have another party. Chapeau, good sirs.
As always, this is just a snobby snapshot of things to do in Cairo this week seen through the eyes of a nightlife elitist; checkout the CG events calendar for more!
