You’d be forgiven for letting your mind wander to the imminent Easter break as dreams of sunburn, heatstroke and sandy beer come slowly closer to your grasp. But before then, the dark, indoor, poorly-ventilated, over-crowded type of fun you can have right here in Cairo has plenty to offer. Here’s the best at Cairo’s bars and clubs this week.
‘OLD IS NU’ FT. DJ SHAWKY & DJ ZALAT @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB
(Monday) Get your roller skates out, because DJ SHawky will be bending the time-space continuum to make retro house acceptable to the human ear for one night, as Cairo Jazz Club gets an equally retro makeover.
EUPHORIA FT. DJ SHERIF OMAR @ ALCHEMY
(Tuesday)He ditched Cairo’s heat waves for London’s rainstorms a while ago, but DJ Omar Sherif gets a lot of love when he comes back to his hometown. This week, he’ll be reconnecting with his roots at Alchemy’s Euphoria.
GREY GRASS @ BAR D’O
(Tuesday)Legend has it that the last time Grey Grass performed at Bar D’O (a few weeks ago), the crowd melted in an orgy of frenzied dance and sensual sweaty-body contact. Expect more of the same glory.
FAYROUZ KARAWYA & ISMAEL @ VENT
Ismael of electro-clash threesome, Wetrobots <3 Bosaina, has recently been seen cavorting with a female singer that ISN’T Bosaina. This horrible public betrayal with Fayrouz Karawya has, however, produced some pretty dope sounds – Egyptian music with a twist.
INDIA BY THE NILE FESTIVAL: MARAMI MEDHI @ CAIRO OPERA HOUSE
(Wednesday)I have a guilty pleasure and it’s called Bollywood and it’s totally awesome and you should get into it and Marami Medhi is the best and she dances like a princess.
