  • Things to Do in Cairo This Week

    thingst

It’s going to be a busy week, with several of Cairo’s bars and clubs celebrating Ireland’s greatest gift to the world and the most important day in every drinker’s calendar, St. Patrick’s Day. There’s also the small matter of Mother’s Day this Friday and the inevitable quest to please the woman from whence you came is well and truly on. I’ll think about it on Thursday.

I’LL BE IRISH IN A FEW BEERS @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB
    (Monday)

I don’t know what an Irishman would think of Cairo Jazz Club on St. Patrick’s Day – a bit too froufrou I’d imagine – but with beer on tap and an impressive DJ lineup, I’d imagine he’d shrug his shoulders and head on out to the dance-floor, where Gawdat, Aguizi and Fahim will be playing the best Gaelic hits from turn of the 19th century. No, not really. It’s house.

GET LUCKY ON ST. PATRICK’S DAY @ TAMARAI
    (Tuesday)

Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day fashionably late, Tamarai welcomes the always jolly DJ ShadyEzz, who’ll be playing to a see of green people drinking out of green bottles of Heineken. Green isn’t my colour, but I’m not worried – I always get lucky at Tamarai…wink-wink. Honestly though, it’s like shooting exotic fish in barrel.

    EUPHORIA FT. SHAWKY @ ALCHEMY
    (Tuesday)

You’ve got to hand it to Alchemy; every Tuesday they have one of Cairo’s top DJs on hand for Euphoria. This week, SHawky (that’s capital ‘S’, capital ‘H’) is the man charged with keeping Alchemy’s lively crowds happy.

CAIRO 360′S FOURTH ANNIVERSARY @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB
    (Wednesday)

All frickin’ month, I’ve been hearing about this party non-stop from Cairo 360, who I have the burden of sharing a headquarters with. They literally haven’t stopped talking about it – it’s unbelievable. It’s as if no one has had an anniversary party before. Chill out, man.

SHAIMA @ SAIGON RESTAURANT & LOUNGE
    (Wednesday)

Having returned to action after a sabbatical of sorts, Fairmont Nile City regulars better get used to seeing that mug, because Shaima is set to perform every Wednesday at Saigon Restaurant & Lounge, if the singer can work out what she’s sat on.
