Here we are; another week closer to death, as we embark on the obviously very important issue of which of Cairo’s bars and clubs have which DJ playing which type of House music – or so you’d think. This edition of the always useful Things to Do in Cairo series boasts a nice variation of sorts, as I expand my slowly rotting brain to other ‘things to do’.
ELEONORA IANNOTTA @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB
Cairo Jazz Club is living la dolce vita this week, with a night of bossa nova and Latin jazz, courtesy if Eel-eeyo-nora Ee-anotta – is there a more poetic name?
‘WOULD YOU HAVE SEX WITH AN ARAB?’ SCREENING @ VENT
The rebel-rousing ruffians at VENT pose a question that I’ve asked myself many a time, because generally, I like my meat white. This French-produced documentary takes cameras to the nightclubs of Tel Aviv, where the drunk and the promiscuous are prodded and made to feel uncomfortable to a question that no one in their right mind would answer yes to.
DANCE RIOT FT. SHADY EZZ & OUZO @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB
Combining two of Egypt’s favourite pastimes – dancing and rioting – Cairo Jazz Club welcomes back both Shady Ezz and Pacha Sharm resident, Ouzo, for a non-violent, fun-loving, fist-pumping, leg-flailing night.
WOMEN ON WALLS @ VENT
In one of the most interesting events of the week, VENT throws its weight behind gender equality initiative, Women on Walls, which aims to highlight the perpetual cocktail of poop and stuff that women are faced with in Egypt and beyond, through street art. The evening will see a panel made up of various champions of fender equality discuss all things related.
VALENTINE’S DINE & DANCE WITH AHMED HARFOUSH @ INTERCONTINENTAL SEMIRAMIS
Ahmed Harfoush is smooth. How smooooth is he? He’s so smooth, that he celebrates Valentine’s Day on February 12th. Lock up your mammas and your sisters.
There’s plenty more to get you teeth stuck into this week, with plenty of gigs, parties, exhibitions and other random nonsense on the CG events calendar.
