There’s a distinct lack of Valentine’s events this year – nothing at Cairo Jazz Club, nothing at Alchemy, nothing from Back 2 Basics. What does this mean? Has the social and political instability of the last four years taken such a toll on Egypt, that we don’t have time for love anymore? Or does it mean that we’ve realised that the historical celebration of St. Valentine actually had nothing to do with love, rendering this pseudo-celebration completely redundant, further proving that, generation by generation, mankind is moving closer into the abyss of the superfluous? Whatever the case, here are a few of said Valentine’s events for your collective delectation.
LA VIE EN ROSE @ SAIGON RESTAURANT & LOUNGE
Mr Romance himself, Ahmed Harfoush, makes a timely return to Fairmont Nile City‘s Saigon Restaurant & Lounge, were he shall serenade lovebirds with the sweet sounds of jazz and blues, while they chow down a special set menu meal at La Vie En Rose.
THE GARDEN OF LOVE @ THE GARDEN
DJ Lyon Avakian is the man in charge of the music at the Garden‘s cleverly named Valentine’s bash, the Garden of Love.
CRUSH @ RIVERSIDE
Zamalek’s Riverside mark the day of flowers, candies and puppies with Crush; a night that will see veteran DJ, Tamer Hegazy, play the part of cupid, as he shoots musical arrows into the unsuspecting crowd, or whatever.
KISSED @ AMICI
What is love? Amici knows what love is. Love is an open bar. Love is a steady stream of booze, each drop caressing your lips. Love is feeling sting of a whiskey on the rocks. Shady Maher provides the music at Kissed.
LOVE BITES @ O BAR
Fairmont Nile City regulars, Dr K and DJ Irma, are the button pushers in charge of the night’s music at O Bar, where cupid is regularly on the loose as it is.
TO DINE FOR @ EAT & BARREL
Singer-songwriter an general smooth operator, Hassan Ramzy, provides the backdrop for a special Valentine’s night at the bar/lounge/beacon of entrepreneurial innovation and originality that is Eat & Barrel in Giza.
HESHEK BESHEK @ GŬ BAR
Asian bar/restaurant, Gu Bar, is going Oriental this Valentine’s with not one, not two, not three but a whole bucket load of bellydancers.
VALENTINE’S PARTY @ PEKING LODGE
Same as above – but with Lorna of Cairo.
