  • Things to Do in Cairo this Easter Weekend

    easter-cg-main

Alright, let’s be honest. There’s no sugar-coating the fact that those that are going to be stuck in Cairo over this long Easter weekend would much prefer to be feet-deep in sand gazing into infinite abyss of a blue ocean with beer in hand. All this “oh Cairo’s going to be so empty and nice” stuff is nonsense. But if you can bring yourself to look on the brighter side of things, there are scatterings of solid events across the city – take your pick…

HOUSE STATION FT. GAWDAT @ BUS STOP
    (Thursday)
    13095960_1543424629295184_5289938118645253929_n
Peculiar use of Laurel & Hardy images aside, Bus Stop‘s weekly House Station has crept its way into the Thursday rotation as a popular way to kick off a weekend, with this week’s edition seeing dynamic duo, Gawdat, take to the decks at the New Cairo bar.

    MAN-O + TAMER AUF @ ZIGZAG
    (Thursday)
    13094189_769454763156347_1841118977261867752_n
Although he’s set to begin his evening at the Tap in Maadi, Tamer Auf will quickly make his way to Downtown’s Zigzag, where’s he’s set to follow Man-O with a set that starts at 3AM. Yes, that’s three in the A-M.
    __________

AMRO & THE BIG BANG BOOGIE @ CAIRO JAZZ CUB
    (Thursday)
    13087800_1264323636929136_2445762425136738110_n
Every bit as big and boogie as their name promises, Amro and the Big Bang Boogie have quickly become a favourite at Cairo Jazz Club and the energetic, slightly unhinged band are set to perform once more at the Mohandiseen bar.
    __________

EAT TO THE BEAT @ EAT & BARREL
    (Friday)
    13100934_2010105292547415_7282849444453959090_n
Hip-hop is on the menu at Eat & Barrel‘s weekly marriage of drinking, brunching and music, with DJ Mobbz and Fedde set to take to the decks at the Nile-side Giza lounge’s Eat to the Beat.
    __________

SUNSET @ THE GARDEN NILE FRONT
    (Friday)
    13103325_1113963748624076_4251161069950238793_n
You’ve got to love the Garden Nile Front‘s commitment to getting you tipsy so early in the night. Weekly party Sunset kicks off earlier than most and this week DJ duo, Phil & Adam, are on the line-up, as well as Medoz.
    __________

    ORIENT EXPRESS @ BUS STOP
    (Friday)
    52ecc43f-452b-4194-92e0-5fe74fb536a0
DJ Mash has quickly become a favourite at Bus Stop, manning several different events over the last few months. Ever the versatile DJ that he is, expect plenty of cool, breezy Arabian-tinted music. The kind your friends are listening to on the way to Gouna, you know?
    __________

    BASHEER @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB
    (Saturday)
    13092110_1264540906907409_2139556164273708172_n
While many bars take the Easter weekend to hibernate, Cairo Jazz Club doesn’t slow down. As part of their Stranded in Cairo This Easter?! line-up, Basheer takes to the stage.
    __________

DJ FEDDE @ THE GARDEN NILE FRONT
    (Sunday)
    13103325_1113963748624076_4251161069950238793_an
Not much usually goes on at the Garden Nile Front on a Sunday, but with Monday a national holiday, the Manial bar has drafted in hip-hop DJ, Fedde, and a seemingly nameless belly-dancer for some start-of-the-week fun.
    __________

    HELLO EASTER @ BAMBOO
    (Sunday)
    13062301_929226460508842_2604924683527771780_n
Bamboo rarely appears on the always insightful Things to Do articles, but, well, beggars can’t be choosers. Hello Easter needs little description – Alla Kushner will be jiggling all night long.
    __________

DJ JUNIOR @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB
    (Monday)
    13083093_1264548963573270_2862065334551427702_n
By now, you’re probably sick of wandering around the house aimlessly during the day – thank god for Cairo Jazz Club, then, eh? DJ Junior‘s gig is the last of the special Easter line-up before normal life resumes.
    __________

    LADIES NIGHT @ AFTER EIGHT
    (Monday)
    13087601_516112505259306_1754520008585588632_n
Ok, so it’s not the hippest place in town, but remember that thing about beggars and choosers? Cheap bear, hip-hop and ladies – After Eight likes to keep things simple.
