Halloween is upon us and grown men and women across the city are preparing all kinds of weird and disturbing costumes for the night that lies ahead. As always, Cairo’s bars and clubs need no excuse to have their patrons dress up and act like fools, but that’s what Halloween is all about, after all. Here are some of the highlights of this year’s parties.
NACELLE: THE KRYPT @ OMAR KHAYYAM BOAT
Possibly the most anticipated Halloween party this year unsurprisingly comes courtesy of Tito, Hisham and co. Nacelle has never done anything by halves and The Krypt is a kind of ‘go hard or go home’ party, with old friend of Nacelle, Elijah Burke, flying in from the UK to head the open bar party.
ALL HALLOW’S EVE @ ALCHEMY
There will never be a more fitting occasion at Alchemy than Halloween. God knows what goes on behind the scenes with the Alchemists and the place is already creepy at the best of times, with hundreds of eyeless faces peering at you. DJ Special K provides the music and attendees will also be granted access to…
CIRQUE DU FREAK @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB
That was an outstanding segue, if I say so myself. Anyway, Cairo Jazz Club‘s Halloween parties are the stuff of legends and the queue outside often looks like a scene from a zombie apocalypse movie. It’s a safe bet that there will be more of the same scenes this time round at Cirque Du Freak and music comes courtesy of DJ NTahawy and Pacha Sharm resident, DJ Ouzo.
WICKED @ AMICI
Amici has been rather quiet this year, but owner, Rawy Rizk, isn’t the kind of man to pass up an opportunity on a party. This Halloween sees the cocktail bar get Wicked with DJs Bibo S and Arrest at the Zamalek branch and DJ Simon at the Heliopolis branch.
TRICK OR DRINK @ ALMAZ
If you’ve been to the Swiss Inn Hotel’s Almaz, you’ll know that there regulars look like they’re dressed up for Halloween most nights anyway – no offense intended. For the real thing, resident DJ, Islam, kicks things off before DJ Ahmed Raouf and a special guest DJ set to continue the night long into the wee early hours of the morning.
DRINK OR TREAT @ CAVALLINI
Heliopolis nightclub, Cavallini – where angels daren’t tread – welcomes UK progressive house, trance and techno DJ, Paul Thomas - a pretty decent booking if you ask me.
BOO! @ THE TEMPLE, NILE PHARAOH
Conspicuous in their absence for the last six or so months, ToyBoys are back and are opening for Greek house and electronica DJ, Freespirit, at elegantly named Halloween party, BOO!, at the Temple.
If you’re being a major Scrooge about Halloween, worry not – there’s plenty of non-satanic, non-gory events to keep you busy this weekend. Check out the Cairo Gossip events calendar and Happy Halloween!
