Cairo has been under the spell of the pseudo-festival concept for the last year or so – and you can understand why. There’s music, there’s drink, there’s food and there’s that rare commodity called ‘an open area of grass’. It’s a simple concept, but one that is suited perfectly to Cairo’s party cravings.
We’ve seen several iterations of the concept in recent months, but Mahmoud Zidan and the Theater of Dreams troops might just be on the verge of putting on the best one yet.
Taking place at Royal Club Mohamed Aly on Friday 7th April, the Freedom Music Festival looks like it will tick all the boxes of that quintessential festival experience – but with one big difference. While the concept has been adapted before, what makes TOD stand out is that few organisers are as good at putting together line-ups, especially when it comes to local talent and you needn’t look further than TOD’s previous line-ups – or at the upcoming line-up for that matter.
Said line-up is a who’s who of Egypt’s most interesting and prolific DJs; Abou Samra, A-Squared, Baher, Jimmy, Misty and Sebzz – all guys who have carved something of niche with their distinctive sounds.
It’s been a busy start to 2017 for TOD, with Zidan and co. having celebrated its anniversary under the Freedom Music Festival banner and also collaborated with party peers, Blurr Entertainment, for another new series. If all goes well on April 7th, this could be the start of one of the best event series in Egypt and another huge year for TOD.
