  • Six Parties to Go to in Cairo This Weekend

    thingsNOV29

Have you pulled yourself out of the Easter hangover yet? Ok, good – get ready for another weekend of musical malarkey, nightlife naughtiness and after-dark antics. Ready, set…BANANAS. Nah, just kidding. Go.

MASSAR EGBARI @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB (Thursday)

    massar-egbari-x

Cairokee often get labelled as Egypt’s ‘biggest/most popular band’, but if we’re talking sheer quality of music, then there’s an argument to be presented about Massar Egbari being the best. This weekend, Cairo Jazz Club kicks off a busy weekend with the Alexandria natives as part of a new spin on Thursday nights.

THEATER OF DREAMS VOL.4 @ VENUE LOUNGE & BAR (Thursday)

    soul-button

Theater of Dreams’ monthly Cairo series, Club Nights, is back and Mahmoud idan and co. have brought along a friend: Soul Button. The Berlin-based deep house and ‘ethereal techno’ whiz headlines a big night at Venue Lounge & Bar in Zamalek that will also feature local favourites, Abou Samra and Sebzz.

BAHER, OUZO & MISTY @ WUNDER KIND (Thursday)

    dj-baher

While Wunder Kind’s Friday nights of belly-dancers and shaabi singers bring in the crowds, it’s the recent string of top DJ bookings on Thursdays that have really put the cat among the pigeons. This week, three of the country’s best take to the stage – Baher, Ouzo and Misty.

SHIHA @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB (Friday)

    shiha-body

Speaking of Egypt’s best DJs, here’s a man that doesn;t get nearly as much recognition as he deserves. SHIHA stands as one of the most established and skilled producers in the country and is set to make a rare public appearance with a return to Cairo Jazz Club where he flies solo.

SIXTONINE @ ROYAL CLUB MOHAMED-ALY (Friday)

    sixtonine

Ok, so it’s not a party per se, but let’s lay it out for a second: booze and food out in the open air, a screening of The Mask and a surprise live music performance. Scrap that. This is a party – the best kind of party.

INTERNATIONAL JAZZ DAY @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB

    othman-el-kheloufi-body

Cairo Jazz Club wraps up a busy weekend with one of the biggest music events in the city. It’s not necessarily because of International Jazz Day – but because of one Othman El Kheloufi. Armed with one of the most unique musical minds in the region, this Moroccan saxophonist fuses jazz with all kinds of other influences ranging from the folk music of Hungary, to Sufi music. Also playing on the night is local jazz-fusion innovators, El Dor E Awal. Not a bad way to end the weekend.
