  • Five Upcoming Sahel Parties Not to Miss This July

    sahel-parties

With Ramadan and Eid behind us, ‘Sahel Season’ – if people still actually call it that – is well and truly underway and with the country’s most prolific event organisers and other nightlife institutions taking to the North Coast, there’s certainly no shortage of parties awaiting this month.

From beach-side day parties, to dusk-till-dawn nights, Sahel’s biggest venues are welcoming some even bigger names. Brace yourselves.

    BYGANZ: HAIFA WEHBE @ RUBIES
    (Thursday 23rd of July)

Love or hate her, Haifa Wehbe is a big name – especially following her surprisingly not-as-bad-as-everyone-assumed roles in Ramadan mosalsalat, Mariam and Mouled we Sahbo Ghayeb . This weekend, the Lebanese singer/actress/magnet of controversy takes to the stage at Club M’s Rubies as the byGanz crew continue to secure huge names for their summer program. Reservations: 0100-000-1102.

    PROJECT MUSIC @ 6IX DEGREES
    (Thursday 23rd of July)

After the success of the Project Music debut back in Cairo at TIU, another bunch of Egypt’s best DJs are set take to the stage on one night – and what a night it’s going to be. With SHawky, Omar Sherif, Abu Samra and Misty & Hafez making up the line-up, Project Music rounds off what is already a huge weekend for 6IX Degrees – a weekend that is set to be kicked off with a Ragheb Alama gig. Reservations: 0127 6666 426.

    BYGANZ: FREDERICK STONE @ RUBIES
    (Friday 24th of July)

If you can pull yourself out of the pit of sand you’ll probably wake up in after the Haifa Wehbe gig at Rubies, things are set to take a turn for the electronic, with byGanz’s next party welcoming Dubai-based tech house DJ, Frederick Stone. Originally from the Caribbean island of Martinique, Stone’s breakthrough as a hip-hop DJ in the nineties gives him a unique approach to house music and he’ll certainly be one of the summer’s more interesting bookings. Bonus Random Fact: Stone once trained to be a chef. Reservations: 0100-000-1102.

LAIDDAZE: DAVID AUGUST [LIVE] @ AMWAJ
    (Thursday 30th of July)

After returning to Cairo nightlife earlier this year with their Back in the Daze series – which welcomed the likes of DJs Âme, Baher and Christof – LaidDaze are kicking off their summer with a huge event in collaboration with local label, KairoMusik. More festival than mere party, Amwaj is set to be the scene for a huge musical extravaganza with a nine-man line-up headlined by none other than David August. Reservations: laiddaze@gmail.com.

HOUSE SESSIONS: SAHEL EDITION @ RUBIES
    (Friday 31st of July)

Back at Rubies, Nacelle are venturing out of Cairo for the second time this year after SANDBOX 2015, with Laura Jones, Matt Tolfrey and Baher in tow for one of the most anticipated parties of the summer.  Even Tito, Hisham Nabil and the rest of the Nacelle crew are more excitable than usual, pointing to Rubies’ top-of-the-line Funktion One sound system that the British-Egyptian line-up is set to be used. Reservations: 0102-070-1701.
