  • Five Parties Not to Miss This Weekend in Cairo

    thingsblur

Let’s keep the smalltalk to a minimum this week – ye, winter is taking its sweet time to get here, get excited for the weekend, etc. This weekend, we have some familiar faces returning, new concepts debuting and big stars taking centre stage (that doesn’t count as small talk by the way. Neither does this. Or this).

THEATER OF DREAMS: CLUB NIGHTS VOL II @ VENUE LOUNGE & BAR
    (Thursday)
    d-formation-body

Theater of Dreams‘ new monthly series, Club Nights, is already one of the biggest dates on the nightlife calendar in the capital thanks to a spate of top bookings. First up was Brazilian music-maker, Sonic Future, and founder Mahmoud Zidan recently announced that Monolik is set to come to Cairo for volume three in December. But before that, we have a Spanish legend lined-up in the form of D-FORMATION, who headlines a night that will also see locals, Abou Samra and Jimmy.

TAMER AUF @ THE TAP EAST
    (Thursday)
    tamer-auf-q

While this may seem like just another normal night at The Tap East, Tamer Auf is a man you won’t find just anywhere. Recently involved behind the scenes at Nacelle, he doesn’t perform as much as fans would want – which is as good enough a excuse as any to head to New Cairo this weekend for what is a rare gig which will see the versatile DJ dish out some house and disco sets.

BLURR ENTERTAINMENT PRESENTS ROOTS @ NINETY TWENTY FIVE
    (Friday)

    joey-daniel

It’s shaping up to be a busy weekend all round for Abou Samra; mere hours after TOD is finished, the DJ will be reporting to the Blurr Entertainment troops for the debut of new concept, Roots. Not unlike actual, physical roots, the series is said to be taking things back to to bare basics – good music, good people, good location. The inaugral edition is set to be headlined by Dutch tech DJ, Joey Daniel, with Abou Samra joined by compatriots Aroussi and Hafez

METEORS PROJECT + ALY GOEDE + HISHAM ZAHRAN @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB
    (Friday)
    b

Three top-draw acts make up one of the best Cairo Jazz Club line-ups this month for another typically big Friday night at the Mohandiseen bar. First up are The Meteors Project who are riding the wave of a brand new record release, while seasoned DJs, Aly Goede and Hisham Zahran, are back at CJC for what is shaping up to be one for pure music fans.

    SHIHA @ ZIGZAG
    (Friday)

    shiha-body

Cairo DJ and producer, SHIHA, is the poster boy for ‘don’t judge a DJ by his gigging’. While we don’t see him as often as we’d like on the nightlife circuit, that in no way reflects on his musical prowess – in fact, SHIHA is one of the most accomplished figures on the electronic music scene in Cairo. As the co-founder of the influential EPIC 101 Studios, he’s also got several releases under his belts with the likes of Nueva Recordings, Jetlag Recordings and  FriskyRecords to name but a few. So go see him at Zigzag‘s Club Night – who knows when it’ll happen again…
