While many are bemoaning the fact that Christmas Day has fallen on a Sunday this year, we choose to look at the brighter side of it -it’s given Cairo’s bars and clubs an excuse to celebrate all weekend, something that Cairo Jazz Club has taken full advantage of, with four back-to-back festive fetes planned. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg; check out the best parties across the city.
CHRISTMAS @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB
(Thursday 22nd -Sunday 25th)
Christmas is always a busy time at Cairo Jazz Club, but this year more than ever – the bar is hosting not one, not two, not even threem but FOUR back-to-back festive parties, starting on Thursday, when The Cadillacs and Bluezophrenia perform at CJC’s annual charity event, before Mohasseb steals Christmas on Friday. Things get shaabi on Saturday with Islam Chipsy and Sweasy, while Voice & Bass and Funk OFF round things off on Christmas Day.
FREQUENCY: XMAS EDITION @ 3AM
There are plenty of festive celebrations across The Royal Maxim Palace Kempinski, but the hotel’s bar, 3AM, is where a more rambunctious party can be found. DJs Irma and Am!ra are putting up a female front with back-to-back sets, before DJ Marsellio and belly-dancer, Anastasia, take to the stage – and there’s more Christmas fun on Friday, too.
WINTER MAGIC BY BACK 2 BASICS @ NINETEEN TWENTY FIVE
One of the biggest Christmas shindigs of the weekend is set to see Ismail Kassem and Back 2 Basics take over Nineteen Twenty Five for a what’s shaping up to be a spectacular day party. Headliner for the day is one of the biggest figures in modern Spanish electronic music, Uner, while locals Jimmy and Abou Samra will be on opening and closing duties.
EAST MEETS WEST: XMAS EDITION @ 3AM
The Royal Maxim Palace Kempinski welcomes back belly-dancer, Anastasia, for the second of its weekend Christmas parties – a festive edition on its weekly East Meets West events.
FROSTED CHRISTMAS @ GRAFFITI
Four Seasons Nile Plaza rarely passes an opportunity to mark an occasion and the Garden City hotel is going all out for Frosted Christmas at Graffiti. The entertainment will come thick and fast, with live music, DJ Remon and, the main event for the evening, belly-dancer Dina, making for a packed line-up.
JINGLE BEATS @ RIVERSIDE
Another of of the biggest events of the Christmas weekend is set to see Zamalek’s Riverside celebrate Christmas Eve with two top acts. First up is Alexandrian band, Massar Egbari, who have had a huge 2016, while DJ duo, Disco Misr – who have had a pretty big year, too – take to the decks with their unique Arabic retro mashups.
CHRISTMAS @ LIV LOUNGE
(Saturday 24th-Sunday 25th)
Heliopolis bar, LIV Lounge, are keeping their cards close to their chests (ahem) with their two-part Christmas party – but expect a Christmas with chic sheen.
CHRISTMAS BEL 3ARABY @ GU BAR
Celebrating festivities in distinctly 3araby style, Zamalek’s Gu Bar’s Christmas Day line-up sees the always entertaining Abdel Baset Hamouda perform, as well as Bahaa Sultan, while belly-dancer, Sahar, is always set to take to the stage, with DJ Tony L rounding off the evening.
SNOWFLAKE @ VENUE LOUNGE & BAR
Nile-side Zamalek bar, Venue, has had a busy few months and are rounding off the year with a couple of festive events, including Snowflake – a Christmas Day party that will feature DJs Ghoneim and Bibo S. as well as belly-dancer, Noura.
MAGIC MISTLETOE @ THE ROYAL MAXIM PALACE KEMPINSKI
Last year’s Magic Mistletoe featured Haifa Wehbe as its headline act and this year, they’ve gone one further with Amr Diab. Taking place at The Royal Maxim Palace Kempinski, the Gatsby-themed event will also welcome Ramy DJunkie to the decks, while belly-dancer, Maya, is also set to perform.
