    Sniff, sniff. Can you smell that? Sniff, sniff. That’s the sweet smell of summer creeping into your nostrils. Yes, with the worst of the weather behind us, Cairo’s bars, clubs and event organisers are turning things up a notch or two starting with this, the most most stacked of weekends.

    FUNK OFF: FARRA’S BIRTHDAY FESTIVAL @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB (Thursday)

    Cairo Jazz Club is set to kick off the weekend on a distinctly jolly note, with the birthday celebration of bassist and producer, Mohamed Farra. Helping him blow out the candles with bee band-mates from Funk OFF, The Cadillacs and Screwdriver, as well as good friends, Disco Misr and Malak El Husseiny. Now that’s a line-up.

    BLURR ENTERTAINMENT: CLUB NIGHT @ CAIRO CAPITAL CLUB (Thursday)

    From the CJC to CCC, one of the weekend’s highlight events sees two of the most popular names on the nightlife scene join forces for the launch of a new series. Blurr Entertainment know how to how a good party, but for Club Night, they’ve recruited Theater of Dreams in putting together a night that will feature Barcelona’s Bassel Darwish and Kitchen Crowd from Jordan, as well as Egypt’s own Abou Samra and Jimmy.

    MISTY & OUZO @ THE TAP MAADI (Thursday)

    While The Tap Maadi‘s schedule has always been a kaleidoscope of different music, the bar has never really got the recognition it deserves for the calibre of DJ they bring in on a weekly basis. This Thursday, the weekend kicks off in style, with Ouzo and Misty taking to the stage.

    HASSAN ABOU ALAM & ALY B @ ZIGZAG (Thursday)

    Speaking of Egypt’s top DJs, the Zigzag‘s weekly House Night sees one of the best young DJs to emerge in the last five years, Hassan Abou Alam, make a return on a night that will also see the enigmatic Aly B take to the stage at the Downtown Cairo bar.

    FUNK N POP @ SAKKARA COUNTRY CLUB (Friday)

    It’s back! The reason young Cairenes have been forsaking its Friday sleep-ins for, Funk N Pop, returns, but things are a little different this time round. Moving from Royal Club Mohamed Aly to Sakkara Country Club, this tasty BBQ edition is set to welcome am equally tasty line-up that includes the likes of Aly Goede, Fulltone, Hassan Abou Alam and more.

    MOHASSEB’S FIFTH ANNIVERSARY @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB (Friday)

    We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again; if you’ve find someone in your life that loves you as much as Cairo Jazz Club loves Mohasseb, then you’re doing alright. The love is, of course, mutual because while CJC likes to celebrate other acts’ anniversaries, no one has been as much of a favourite for as long as Mohasseb. Happy fifth anniversary.

    SIXTONINE: OUTDOOR CINEMA VOL. 1 @ ROYAL CLUB MOHAMED ALY (Friday)

    Yes, this is not a party as such, but it’s too cool to leave out. Harking back to Cairo’s popular outdoor cinemas of yesteryear, SixToNine’s inaugural event will set-up camp in the green planes of Royal Mohamed Aly Club, where a unique outdoor cinema experience awaits. Various food vendors and a live music surprise have also been promised – what’s not to like?

    FAYEK & TOYBOYS @ ZIGZAG (Friday)

    Friday’s Club Night at Zigzag is a big one, with the Downtown Cairo bar set to host a rare reunion of Diya Nouman and Youssef Sami – aka Toyboys. Now based abroad, gigs back home are few and far between, but this weekend’s they’ll also be joined on the line-up by increasingly popular DJ, Mohamed Fayek.

    AGUIZI & FAHIM @ THE TAP EAST (Friday)

    Dynamic duo, Aguizi & Fahim, are heading out east to New Cairo this Friday for what’s shaping up to be a big night at The Tap East, where versatile DJ and venue favourite, Anis, also taking to the decks.

    SOROUR & EL DOR EL AWAL @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB (Saturday)

    Winding down the weekend to colourfully chill end, Cairo Jazz Club is set to welcome two of Egypt’s most unique bands. Kicking off the night is Arabic-inspired folk group and Alexandria natives, Sorour, while Mediterranean jazz takes over later in the night courtesy of El Dor El Awal.
