2015 was the year of beach-side electronic music festivals, with Theater of Dreams standing as possibly the biggest of a growing bunch. Having debuted in January 2015 in Sinai, organiser Mahmoud Zidan went on to take TOD to Sharm El Sheikh, Sahel and even Cairo.
2016 is shaping up to be just as big a year, as the travelling music event celebrates its first anniversary between the 4th and 6th of February in Nuweiba where it all started, at Maagana Camp, with a just-released line-up that will have TOD loyalists salivating at the ears, so to speak.
Said line-up features no less than 16 acts, including everyone from Abou Samra, Marc Wahba, Aly B and Ouzo, to Omar El Sabh, Aguizi & Fahim, Baher, Gaser, Gawdat, Hassan Abou Alam, A-Squared, Misty, Nourre Fahmy and Fayek, as well as Jasmin and Moste.
Three days, sixteen acts.
The latest edition of the festival marks a huge achievement for Zidan and co., who can rightly lay claim to giving this very particular festival scene a proverbial shot in the proverbial arm, with several other similar events having launched throughout the year. But the anniversary is just the beginning of what is rumoured to be an even more eventful year for TOD – stay tuned.
