The BuSSy Project isn’t going down without a fight. What many refer to as Egypt’s answer to The Vagina Monologues has been dismissed by censorship advocates for the duration of its existence – something that eventually led the project to take to crowd-funding in order to found its own space; one free of the judging eyes that have stunted the growth of what is one of the most engaging, versatile and encompassing initiatives of its kind, giving a unique platform for Cairenes to express themselves creatively and affectively in addressing what much of Egypt consider taboo subjects.
Despite having only reached a tenth of their target on indiegogo, there’s still light at the end of the tunnel and this is one group of women that refuses to be crippled by a pandemic that doesn’t seem to want to go away. On Saturday 3rd of October, however, the BuSSy Project is set to take centre-stage at Garden City cultural centre, ROOM Art Space for a special fundraising event.
Things kick off at 2PM with a garage sale (entry is free), which will be set-up till 6PM and followed by a selection of performances from the BuSSy Project, while Abo will round off the night (tickets for the performances are 35LE).
No one’s kidding themselves here – a garage sale and a share of the tickets aren’t going to be the thing that push the BuSSy Project into reaching its $70,000 aim. But it really is true that every little counts.
