  • Endangered Wolf Species Saved by Egyptian Wildlife Rescue Team

A group from Alexandria Turtle & Wildlife Rescue Team successfully saved an endangered Egyptian jackal wolf and returned it to its natural habitat in Wadi El Rayan.

Team member Mau Gawad Hamada reported that the wolf had been previously sold online in Fayoum.

Not only was the wolf thoroughly examined, but also, Minister of Environment, Dr Yasmin Fouad, saw to it that all the arrangements needed for the wolf to safely continue its natural life in Wadi El Rayan were made.

The minister applauded the team for their role in saving this endangered wolf species, as this incident was definitely a win in the good fight against the illegal wildlife trade. It could also help in spreading awareness on our role as citizens to preserve our environment.

What’s even better is that the UN Biodiversity Conference, held in Sharm El Sheikh back in November 2018, was the first of its kind to be hosted by any country in the Arab world and Africa.

The conference focused on the necessary measures for biodiversity conservation, and future policies that will aid sustainable development.

In the end, this is fantastic news and an illustration of the Ministry of Environment’s success with regards to their efforts at saving endangered animals and fighting against illegal wildlife trade.
