  • D-CAF 2015 Kicks Off Performing Arts & Music Programmes

    dcaf1

The Downtown Contemporary Arts Festival kicks off tonight – hurrah! D-CAF is Egypt’s only multi-disciplinary arts festival. Bringing together the best and most unique art works in a variety of fields; music, performing arts, visual arts, film, and ‘urban visions’, the festival will be showcasing both local and international artists. D-CAF will host events, screenings, and exhibitions at an array of historic and evocative venues, including the old French Consulate, Borsa (the Egyptian stock market), the old AUC campus, Sednaoui Department Store, and many others.

This year’s festival is shaping up to be the biggest one yet, offering a truly eclectic mixture of artistic endeavors for your viewing pleasure. The festival was in launched in 2011 to facilitate international cultural exchange, and to breathe new life into the many underutilized venues in Downtown Cairo. Evidently, this proved successful, as the continuity of D-CAF will attest.

The importance of a thriving, varied and controversial art scene is often underestimated in Egypt. D-CAF addresses this, offering unapologetic, unflinching, thought-provoking exhibitions to challenge the perceptions of patrons.
