It might be a little too early to be making plans for Christmas, but one event already has Cairenes wagging their tales. In fact, to call Cochlea an event would be doing it a great disservice, because, on top of a huge line-up of some of the best young players on the electronic music scene, the festival is taking full advantage of its location in Nuweiba, Sinai.
Set to start on Wednesday 23rd of December, the four-day extravaganza will include diving and other water-based tomfoolery as part of a package that will see Hassan Abu Alam and Gaser El Safty flex their disc jockeying muscles, as well as Ahmed Samy, who is set to take to the decks for a back-to-back set with Zeina. The enigma that is Aly B is also set to play, as are Sebzz, Misty, Man-O and Ahmed Salah, as well as Habiba Effat & Alaa Sharshar who are on morning-music duties.
Named after the sense organ that essentially translates and communicates sound to your brain – and possibly a play on Coachella - Cochlea is the latest in a line of seaside festivals that have come to be popular amongst Cairene music lovers, with the organisers aiming to create a community of fellow electronic music connoisseurs, as well as a platform for the country’s increasingly deep pool of talent.
